Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
Have you ever wondered how the brain identifies a location and correlates it with our further destinations or for that instance for telling route to someone who seeks help in going from one location to another location? What it implies is that our brain has a full-fledged GPS (global positioning system) in existence for ages, maybe since the evolution of mankind, or probably much before that. This year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology/ Medicine has gone to three such scientists who have discovered the global positioning system of the brain.

Professor John O’Keefe who is a Neuroscientist at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience – UCL – UK is the recipient of this year’s Nobel Prize for Medicine/ Physiology. He also heads the Department of Anatomy in University College London, the United Kingdom. The two other recipients of this award are May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser. Professor John O’Keefe is also recipient of prestigion Grawemeyer Award and Gruber Prize in Neuroscience, earlier in his carrier, prior to this. Queen of Galaxy Unveiled by Emperor of Smaprtphones: Samsung Launches Galaxy Alpha

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers
Asim Warsi, VP, Mobile & IT, Samsung IndiaLara Dutta Bhupathi
S.K. Kim, Managing Director, Sales, Samsung Electronics, India
She is irresistible. She loves three dress codes - Dazzling White, Charcoal Black and Frosty Gold. She is about to debut in the first week of October, the auspicious week of Dussehra, Vijaydashmi and Durga Puja. She is safe, secured and smartest of all. Samsung unveiled its newest, sexiest, lightest, slimmest, smartest, irresistible and gorgeous Galaxy Alpha.

Irresistible: Looking at the features below, probably you will agree to it. In addition to the features mentioned below you have an extra bouquet of Health Monitor, Heart Rate Monitor, Compatibility with all Samsung Gear Devices.

Color: Samsung Galaxy comes in two colors: White, Black and Gold. All are marvelous, but it depends on an individual's choice and comfort. Lara Dutta was there at the ceremony. Her favorite was golden.

Display: 4.7" HD super AMOLED display is good for all kind of activities you can imagine to perform on a smartphone - messaging, mailing, movie/ video etc. in a 1280 x 720 pixels display.

Size: Samsung has given a new definition to the word 'slim' by providing the slimmest of the galaxy family. Samsung Galaxy Alpha is 6.7 mm thus making it sleek, swift, easy to carry, comfort to grip and place it anywhere, in any pocket without a botheration.

Weight: Imagine the world that used to have a perception of a directly proportional relationship of power with weight and size. The concept has changed with the innovations in technology where such a light weight smartphone with so slim and sleek design is demonstrating tremendous power. 115 grams of smartphone with so much of intense power in it - wonderful and amazing.

Safety: Though it is not water and dust proof as its predecessor Galaxy S but it has some other tremendously impressive features to win the game. It has a premium metal frame that is claimed to ascertain a 'non-bending' fear. The sophistication and strength is the outcome. It is the material technology, size and weight - the combination of all three that ensure its 100% safety from a free fall. The fall on solid surface after getting dropped from a height, or slipping out of the grip, and rapidly travelling towards the hard surface due to Newton's law of gravitational pull, it stays safe after the hit on ground.

Security: Login security is there with finger detection. You have private mode option for apps where the apps will run only with an additional confirmation with a finger swipe, makes it extra protective and secured.

Memory: RAM is 2GB which as per me is fine for a high end smartphone. My dream phone would be 4GB withing same cost range. Internal memory (primary storage) is 32GB - fantastic. For a long time you will not have to bother about your videos and other heavy files. Remember the more storage with more number of important information needs more attention - never be careless in taking the backup of your important information. And it is always good to keep cluttering the unwanted data stored in your phone.

Battery: Ultra power saving mode. Even if the battery is as low as 15%, it can serve you for 24 more hours by automatically going to gray scale mode from color mode thereby running in economy mode. Battery is 1860 mAh, capable to run for stretched hours even in 4G/3G connectivity for consistent delivery and performance.

Network: It supports 4G LTE promising to support 300 mbps of download speed.

Camera: Superbly powered 12 megapixels rear or primary camera and 2.1 megapixels front (or secondary camera) as per me are best of the options. You can't demand more than that in rear and front. And I don't think any other smartphone is able to beat it. Additional technological advancements like shadow free HDR (high dynamic range), face detection and selective focus option make it much stronger. Superb capturing of Panoramic Views.

Operating System: Android 4.4.4 KitKat

Processor: Octa core (Quad 1.8 GHz + Quad 1.3 GHz) - what else you need? Multiprocessing is smart processing where it allocates the processing power at the more demanding app rather than parallel and equal distribution. 8 cores make it a super strong device in terms of performance.

So you have a bouquet of Motorola apps bundled with the device.

Professor Arogyaswami Joseph Paulraj Gets Marconi Society Prize 2014

It is 50th year celebration of prestigious Marconi Society that was established by Giola Marconi Braga, daughter of the great scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who invented radio. The Marconi Society, since last 50 years is recognizing and awarding one or more scientists who contribute considerable advancement in ICT (information and communication technology) that largely impacts social, cultural and economic development in masses.

This year, 2014, Professor and Scientist Arogyaswami Joseph Paulraj has been recognized for his contribution towards development of the theory and applications of MIMO antennas. MIMO stands for multiple input multiple output. Professor Paulraj in and India born scientist who is currently working at Stanford University. His research suggests to use MIMO antennas at both ends - transmitting and receiving - in wireless technology. And based on his research and well concluded results, in today's high-tech world high Speed Wi-Fi systems work on the same technology and so do the 4G mobile systems.

So we can undoubtedly say that high speed Wi-Fi systems and 4G mobile technology would not have been possible without Prof Paulraj's research on MIMO antennas. He has received USD 100,000 along with a citation mentioning his contribution to the current world.

He is also the recipient of Padma Bhushan Award in 2010 and the Alexander Graham Bell IEEE Medal in 2011.

Micromax Gains Top Slot In Total Mobile Shipment In Q2 of 2014 in India

If total count turnover of any kind of mobile phone is looked into, Micromax has grabbed the top slot in Quarter 2 of year 2014 which was earlier with Samsung. So we have seen some major shuffles in quarter 2 of 2014. First it is Motorola that has taken over the fourth slot in overall smartphone sales in India in Q2 and moved Microsoft down the ladder. This has happened withing a year of the re-entry of Motorola in India.

Overall share of Micromax as per Q2 figures is a little over 16% and Samsung that is on second slot now holds 14.5%.  If only smartphones shipment is taken into account, Samsung is still singing aloud at the top slot with a market share of over 25%.

If Latest Facts Are Right Then Motorola Smartphones Sales Has Left Nokia Far Behind In India

If last two quarters sales figures are correctly picked, then Motorola has given a big jerk to Microsoft as far as first Quarter 2014-15 sales of smartphone mobile handsets is concerned. In Jan-Feb-Mar (i.e. Quarter 4 of 2013-14), Microsoft's Nokia  smartphone handsets sales in India was around 580k as compared to Motorola's 380k. Which means Nokia smartphones sales was approx 200k higher than Motorola.

But in last quarter ended Jun 2014, Motorola has surpassed Nokia smartphones in a big way. Where Motorola has sold around 960k smartphones in India, Nokia sales has squeezed to 630k. Although Microsoft may console itself by appreciating rise in sales of its handsets in last quarter as compared to last to last quarter by around 50k smartphones (which is not at all a good jump), but if we see the substantial rise in Motorola smartphone sales in last 2 quarters which has risen by 580k, a whooping rise.

Within a year, Motorola has given a tough competition to Nokia and in next quarter probably it will be difficult for Nokia to sustain its rising trend, if Motorola keeps it steep rise intact.

Can You Fulfill My Dream: WeChat: Build Some More Features And Make It Unbeatable

The way WeChat is surpassing its rivals in terms of winning the hearts of more and more users because of its rich and unique features; it is not far for it to reach at the top ladder in no time and then it will be easier for it to sustain there and not let any other competitor reach there because of a number of reasons. One strong reason is that more than 50% of total strength of Tencent Inc. is part of its research and development wing. Another solid reason is the volume of so powerful and useful features that have already been released in WeChat so far is far beyond the imagination to achieve for any of its rivals.

Keeping aside the features it has that I have already mentioned in my earlier two posts - here and here; I am going to specify my future expectations from WeChat as I am sure for it to achieve it for two reasons - one, because of its capabilities and two, for its commitments towards its customers to deliver beyond expectations. Before that, I would like to mention one important feature that I forgot to mention in earlier two posts (and the reason for that is quite obvious - the app is so feature rich that you are bound to forget a few) - you get 1 GB of cloud space to save your important data of pics, videos and voice messages (or text) on cloud on a click of a button.

Now the expectations:

  1. Imagine you are in a restaurant and have forgotten your wallet at home, that you get to know after having your food.
  2. The app should have a virtual wallet so that you can just pay through it.
  3. It must have an NFC app to perform various tasks related to RFID reader.
  4. Suppose you are at home and your friend, who is in an emergency, needs some amount immediately. So, you, without going to your laptop or bank app, just are able to transfer the desired amount instantly.
  5. You have reached at airport to catch your flight and by mistake you forgot to pick your physical ticket. The app must be able to produce it.
  6. Similarly if you have forgotten your proof of identity at home, the app must be able to fulfill the requirement.
  7. The app must keep your medical records, important communication, documents, consolidated banking details of multiple accounts, investments, stocks, properties, etc. not only the transactions but also the related documents.

Product Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8 T331: A Superb Value for Money in Reality

A Quad Core processor is always a better option if you are using your mobile for more than talking. Obviously when you are buying a smartphone you would definitely have a number of apps and features in mind that you would keep running on your mobile. All applications are not written keeping utilization of multiple cores of a processor. So if the applications that you are using use only a single core of a processor, it would not be a drastic enhancement for you.

On the other hand, most of the latest apps are developed keeping mid range to high end smartphones in mind - which means - dual core to quad core. Hence multitasking and multi core definitely is the demand of time.

For 24k you are getting a 1.2 GHz quad core processor along with latest Android kitkat operating system. Some features though are overhyped and are there just for the sake of increasing the tally of features for the phone but overall Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 - 8" T3331 is a good value for money in terms of performance, appearance and features. 1.5 GHz of RAM, Android 4.2.2 kitkat OS, etc is all good. The low side is its below par 3 megapixel of rear camera whereas its peers from other brands are reaching to 12 megapixels of cameras these days. The front camera also fine - being 1.3 megapixels. Screen size is 8". Battery life is excellent - 10 hours.

Overall not more than 3.5 on a scale of 5. The product is ready to launch and would be released on 12th June 2014. Pre-release orders are available online.
