It is 50th year celebration of prestigious Marconi Society that was established by Giola Marconi Braga, daughter of the great scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who invented radio. The Marconi Society, since last 50 years is recognizing and awarding one or more scientists who contribute considerable advancement in ICT (information and communication technology) that largely impacts social, cultural and economic development in masses.

This year, 2014, Professor and Scientist Arogyaswami Joseph Paulraj has been recognized for his contribution towards development of the theory and applications of MIMO antennas. MIMO stands for multiple input multiple output. Professor Paulraj in and India born scientist who is currently working at Stanford University. His research suggests to use MIMO antennas at both ends - transmitting and receiving - in wireless technology. And based on his research and well concluded results, in today's high-tech world high Speed Wi-Fi systems work on the same technology and so do the 4G mobile systems.

So we can undoubtedly say that high speed Wi-Fi systems and 4G mobile technology would not have been possible without Prof Paulraj's research on MIMO antennas. He has received USD 100,000 along with a citation mentioning his contribution to the current world.

He is also the recipient of Padma Bhushan Award in 2010 and the Alexander Graham Bell IEEE Medal in 2011.

Micromax Gains Top Slot In Total Mobile Shipment In Q2 of 2014 in India

If total count turnover of any kind of mobile phone is looked into, Micromax has grabbed the top slot in Quarter 2 of year 2014 which was earlier with Samsung. So we have seen some major shuffles in quarter 2 of 2014. First it is Motorola that has taken over the fourth slot in overall smartphone sales in India in Q2 and moved Microsoft down the ladder. This has happened withing a year of the re-entry of Motorola in India.

Overall share of Micromax as per Q2 figures is a little over 16% and Samsung that is on second slot now holds 14.5%.  If only smartphones shipment is taken into account, Samsung is still singing aloud at the top slot with a market share of over 25%.

If Latest Facts Are Right Then Motorola Smartphones Sales Has Left Nokia Far Behind In India

If last two quarters sales figures are correctly picked, then Motorola has given a big jerk to Microsoft as far as first Quarter 2014-15 sales of smartphone mobile handsets is concerned. In Jan-Feb-Mar (i.e. Quarter 4 of 2013-14), Microsoft's Nokia  smartphone handsets sales in India was around 580k as compared to Motorola's 380k. Which means Nokia smartphones sales was approx 200k higher than Motorola.

But in last quarter ended Jun 2014, Motorola has surpassed Nokia smartphones in a big way. Where Motorola has sold around 960k smartphones in India, Nokia sales has squeezed to 630k. Although Microsoft may console itself by appreciating rise in sales of its handsets in last quarter as compared to last to last quarter by around 50k smartphones (which is not at all a good jump), but if we see the substantial rise in Motorola smartphone sales in last 2 quarters which has risen by 580k, a whooping rise.

Within a year, Motorola has given a tough competition to Nokia and in next quarter probably it will be difficult for Nokia to sustain its rising trend, if Motorola keeps it steep rise intact.
